iPad Update: While we realize the frustration with the iPad situation, we still believe that Internet safety is a non-negotiable. Therefore, because technicians are in a different time zone and very hard to get in contact with, our appointment has been put off until Thursday afternoon. The earliest iPad pick could happen is Friday, but it will most likely be Monday. In the meantime, all applications are accessible on other devices; cell phones or other computers IF you have one.

Learning is at home this week. We are still meeting with families to write educational development plans for every student. Many have not yet picked up Chromebooks - please do so this week so your children are able to log on to determine if there are any tech issues we need to address. On campus learning and bus pick up will begin Aug. 31.

Reminder
We have attempted to call every number we have on file for families to set up meetings. Some numbers have been invalid, voicemail full or not set up, or calls ignored. Please call 269-489-2213 if you still have not scheduled a meeting with teachers, missed a meeting, or have not heard from the school. We have limited appointment times so please try to make your scheduled time or call to reschedule so we can give that spot to others. And just a reminder, that masks are required inside the building at this time. Thank you.

Some Reading Street textbooks were not returned in June. If you are a family with a student in grades K-6 and are still in possession of a textbook, please drop off in the elementary office or bring with you to your back to school meeting. Thank you!

CHANGE: iPad pick up for K-2 students: We are updating our security for the iPads; therefore, we will hand those out during our meetings next week. You do not need to pick them up this week. If you have a scheduled meeting with teachers this week, we will make arrangements to get the iPads to you when the security is done being installed. Sorry for the delay, but Internet safety is important to us.

Just a quick update on back to school plans: Thank you so much to all of our families for being part of the process for getting back to school. We appreciate the input you have provided as partners in education at Burr Oak Community Schools. We are hoping to have all of our "recommended guidelines" from each department at the state level by the end of this week. As well, the health department guidelines for schools differ a little bit each week so we have to continually make adjustments. We have been working on several plans with slight differences at each grade level. As of this past Tuesday, we were still waiting on directives from the early childhood Great Start Readiness Program and special education. These directives could make a difference in where teachers are assigned, so once we have those directives we will be able to give more detailed information for each grade level. We will post the "Back to School Safely" plan on our website and will include a link on the school's Facebook page. High school students and at least one parent will need to meet with the teacher team and counselor the first week of school. These will be scheduled time slots and we hope to do this in person but might have to via Zoom. (More to come on this.) We will have detailed instructions for K-8 sent home. You should receive them the week of August 17 (possibly sooner). I understand that we would all like a definite plan in place; we are working as quickly as possible to make that happen. ~ Mrs. Owens

IMPORTANT! If you have NOT yet spoken to an employee of the school about your learning options for your children, please call 269-489-2213 so we can get your information. We have called all families at least once using the numbers on record and have left messages when that was an option. We want to share our return to learning plans, but we need this information by Thursday, July 23 to effectively complete the process. Thank you.
