Just a quick update on back to school plans: Thank you so much to all of our families for being part of the process for getting back to school. We appreciate the input you have provided as partners in education at Burr Oak Community Schools. We are hoping to have all of our "recommended guidelines" from each department at the state level by the end of this week. As well, the health department guidelines for schools differ a little bit each week so we have to continually make adjustments. We have been working on several plans with slight differences at each grade level. As of this past Tuesday, we were still waiting on directives from the early childhood Great Start Readiness Program and special education. These directives could make a difference in where teachers are assigned, so once we have those directives we will be able to give more detailed information for each grade level. We will post the "Back to School Safely" plan on our website and will include a link on the school's Facebook page. High school students and at least one parent will need to meet with the teacher team and counselor the first week of school. These will be scheduled time slots and we hope to do this in person but might have to via Zoom. (More to come on this.) We will have detailed instructions for K-8 sent home. You should receive them the week of August 17 (possibly sooner). I understand that we would all like a definite plan in place; we are working as quickly as possible to make that happen. ~ Mrs. Owens

We have called all families at least once using the numbers on record and have left messages when that was an option. UPDATE: We are still waiting on our template from the the powers that be at the state level to begin planning for the 20/21 school year. Here is what we do know: 1. We will need to meet (by phone, by Zoom, etc.) with every family to discuss the options for learning for each individual child. 2. We will do our best to provide the most face-to-face time possible for students. 3. We will come up with several plans based on the phases defined by the State of Michigan. 4. We have been working all summer to collaborate and brainstorm scenarios that would aim to keep our students as safe as possible and return to some form of face to face learning. 5. Not only will we work for the safety of students, but we will also work to keep our entire staff as safe as possible. 6. We have to be prepared for remote learning in the event that we go back to Phase three, BUT students will be held accountable to complete work and they will be expected to adhere to a schedule. 7. The length of the school day will most likely be different. 8. There are challenges ahead, but we are a creative bunch and feel confident that we can provide a quality education to students regardless of the obstacles we might face in the upcoming school year! - Mrs. Owens
